The first polio vaccine injections were administered in October 1955 in Gratz, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, at the Gratz Elementary School, by Dr. Arthur A. Horn, assisted by school nurse, Miss Helen Reed. The unidentified young man pictured was the first one in Gratz to receive the shot.
