An undated portrait of Harvey L. Hess, who was born 25 November 1864 in Gratz, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, the son of Jacob A. Hess (1840-1917) and Ella Amanda [Roadbach] Hess (1846-1882). Harvey married Flora Clemens (1846-1943) on 27 September 1890, in Gratz, and with her had at least nine known children. The couple lived in Trevorton, Northumberland County, where Harvey worked as a coal miner and a farmer.
Harvey L. Hess died on 3 December 1951 in Trevorton, and is buried there in the Greenwood Cemetery.
