A chest with fraktur design that was on exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 2015. The chest bears the name of Jacob Rickert and date 1782. This individual has not been directly connected to any of the members of the Rickert family who settled in the Lykens Valley area. However, the elements of fraktur design were widely found throughout the Pennsylvania German communities.
The exhibit announcement contained a description of fraktur:
Fraktur — bright and boldly decorated manuscripts — document and depict the most intimate moments of Pennsylvania German life. Drawn with Spirit presents embellished works of art recording birth, marriage and religious faith. The exhibition is drawn from the promised gift of Joan Johnson and Victor Johnson, who built one of the nation’s premier private collections of fraktur.
The fraktur depicted on the announcement was the Birth and Baptismal Certificate for Susanna Frey, born September 5, 1811.
