Joseph Harvey Holtzman (1868-1959) – An Active Killinger Church Member at 90

The following article appeared in a local newspaper about two years before the death of Joseph Harvey Holtzman (1868-1959):

HARVEY HOLTZMAN

Mr. Harvey Holtzman has been a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Killinger, most of his life. Although he has passed his 90th birthday anniversary, he is still active in attendance at Sunday School and church services even though he cannot hear a word that is spoken. Mr. Holtzman is never absent unless he is ill.

He has always shown a deep interest in all that pertains to the work of the church and has taken a real interest in the improvements that have been made from time to time.

His fine spirit of friendliness and cooperation has been shown many times. Because of this he is highly respected by all the members of the congregation and the pastor.

His faithfulness to the church certainly is an example for those who are not handicapped in any way to take a greater interest in the church and its work and to be faithful in attendance at all services.

Mr. Holtzman has been deaf some 15 years. Mrs. Holtzman, 88, is bedfast because of illness.

New improvements at Salem Church, which were dedicated at services, November 16 at 7:30 p.m., included the redecorating of the entire interior of the church, new tile floor in the primary classroom, new stair pads, and waterproofing of brick wall.
