One of a series of four interior photographs taken in 2015 of the damaged interior of the Lykens Hotel, Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, prior to the application of funding to pay for the renovation. The project was led by the Lykens Community Development Corporation and was explained in an article that appeared in the Citizen Standard, Valley View, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. The article and photos were by Rebecca Zemencik, managing editor of the newspaper.

Upon entering the door of the former Lykens Hotel, this is what remains of what once was the main lobby. In its heyday in the late 1920’s, the hotel served as not only a place for travelers to rest their weary heads, but also housed a bank, a state store and served as a place where famous entertainers once performed. Plans are in the works to revitalize the old property into affordable housing where people will come to live and shop the local vendors in Lykens. The hope is that the building will serve as a catalyst for the downtown borough.
