A colorized version of an aerial black and white photograph taken in 1953 of the two-family house, known also as the “Mansion House,” on Lot 49, East Market Street, Gratz, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The “Mansion House” was built in the late 1840s or early 1850s. The attached Lot 51, shown empty and to the left in this photo, was owned by the same family.
In the 1960s, Irvin Adams, a Gratz car dealer with a business on the other side of the street, decided to demolish the house and use the two lots to park used cars he had for sale.
Above, a colorized version of an undated black and white photograph of the original, old barn at the back of Lot 49. Note, at the left side of the photo, in the distance and across Market Street, is the Irvin Adams garage and home, situated on Lot 50.
The barn has also been demolished and today both Lot 49 and Lot 51 are used to park trucks and equipment.
