Rev. Melvin H. Stehr (1922-2015) – Evangelical Minister from Pitman

REV. MELVIN H. STEHR

Rev. Melvin H. Stehr, age 92, of New Holland, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at 5:05 AM in Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Pitman, Schuylkill County, a son of the late Henry R. Stehr and Kathryn Elizabeth [Morgan] Stehr, he was married 69 years to Sadie E. [Wolfgang] Stehr.

A 1941 Hegins High School graduate, he studied at the Evangelical Congregational Church Seminary, Myerstown, Lebanon County, 1953-1956. Pastor Stehr served the Evangelical Congregational churches of Barry Township (Ashland); Pequea-Mt. Airy; Creswell-Conestoga; St. Paul’s (Reamstown); Immanuel (Adamstown); and Zeltenreich UCC (New Holland); and was pastor emeritus of Pequea E. C. Church. He was the chaplain of New Holland Lions Club and various hospitals and nursing homes, an avid speaker & lecturer, member of the Columbia Watch & Clock Association, and a coin & pocket watch enthusiast.

Also surviving are his daughters, Carol A. Sellers (Rev. Lonnie D. Sellers, Terre Hill; twins, Lois M. Weber (Myron Weber), Denver; & Linda Copenhaver (Kirk Copenhaver), Ephrata; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ruby Miller (William Miller), Lititz. A brother, Kenneth Stehr, predeceased him in 1987.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015, promptly at 8 PM from St. Paul’s E. C. Church, 46 E. Church St., Reamstown, PA 17567, with viewing from 6 to 8 PM. The Rev. Dr. Gordon R. Lewis will officiate. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 10 AM in Zion E. C. Cemetery, Pitman. There will be no procession to the cemetery; please meet there prior to the service.
