Shamokin – Diminick Breaker

An undated photograph of the Diminick Breaker, along Route 61 (at left), Shamokin, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. According to the caption, the breaker was “a cone and jig breaker that went out of business in the 1960s.

Note the passenger train on the hill above the road. It is pulled by two locomotives.

Note also the autos on the road and the “Welcome to Shamokin” sign at right.

The photo appeared in the “Looking Back” feature of the Pottsville Republican and Herald, February 20, 2011.
