Wiconisco – Prout Drugs & Hardware, 1908

J. S. PROUT – DRUGS & HARDWARE

It would scarcely be possible to review Wiconisco‘s past, and to speak of the representative business enterprises and successful dealers, without devoting a little special attention to the old established drug and hardware store of Dr. J. S. Prout. For twenty-two years the store and its owner has enjoyed the confidence and respect of not only the medical practitioners, but the community in general and has always been looked upon as one of the town’s most reputable establishments. A full line is carried of standard proprietary remedies, pharmaceutical preparations, sick room necessities, druggists’ sundries, and with other conveniences, nothing is lacking to make the store attractive and popular. The prescription department is in charge of Haydn Prout, a son of the proprietor, who is a graduate of the Medico Chirurgical College of Pharmacy; the senior Mr. Prout also being a registered pharmacist. In addition to drugs, a complete line of builders and general hardware is carried in stock. The present store has been occupied since 1887, and Mr. Prout may be said to be one of the town’s leading and successful business men. He has always taken an active interest in all matters calculated for the improvement of local conditions, and for nine years served as a school director.
