From the Elizabethville Echo, 26 December 1918:
Harry Bechtel Dies of His Wounds
Private Harry Bechtel who served his country as a member of the 314th Infantry in France was severely wounded on November 10th and on December 18th his brother, Claude Bechtel of Millersburg received a telegram from the War Department that Harry died in the hospital.
The young man was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Bechtel and left Elizabethville on May 27th for Camp Meade and after several months of training went to France, his death occurring 17 days after having been wounded.
Harry was a great help to his parents on the farm and will be greatly missed, for they confidently expected that he would come home again and assist them next summer.
